Your request has been blocked as our system has detected suspicious activity from your account
Exact error
Your request has been blocked as our system has detected suspicious activity from your account. If you believe this is a mistake, please contact us at hi@cursor.com. (Request ID: ...)
What it means
Cursor's abuse and free-trial fraud detection rejected the request before it reached a model. It often shows up on brand-new accounts or on the very first prompt, and Cursor staff have said on their forum that it can be a false positive. It does not mean your code or project is the problem.
Likely causes
- A VPN, proxy or frequently changing IP address.
- Several Cursor accounts having been used from the same machine or network (common on shared or office networks).
- Sending the same prompt over and over in a short time.
- A brand-new free account that the trial-abuse checks flag.
- A wrong system clock or a flood of failed SSH or connection attempts that looks like unusual traffic.
How to fix it
Turn off any VPN or proxy, then fully quit Cursor (not just close the window) and reopen it.
Start a new chat, or open a new window with Ctrl+Shift+N (Cmd+Shift+N on Mac), and change the wording of your prompt instead of resending it unchanged. Several users on the Cursor forum report this alone clears the block.
Sign out and back in from Cursor Settings. If you signed up with email, try signing in with Google or GitHub, which Cursor support has suggested.
Check that your computer's date and time are set automatically, then run Cursor Settings → Network → Run Diagnostics and fix anything it flags.
Wait a few hours and try again. If it keeps happening, email hi@cursor.com with the Request ID from the error and say whether you use a VPN or have used other Cursor accounts on that machine.
Prevent this next time
- Commit before letting the agent make large changes so you can always roll back.
- Put recurring instructions in project rules instead of repeating them in chat.
